Frederick Elephant - Bholu...1. descriptive of naive & free artistic expression. 2. a term of endearment & affection towards a small child. Origin - Katchchh, Gujarat, India. Frederick Elephant is hand made by women artisans in India & is inspired by the drawings of underprivileged children in India. Frederick Elephant, with his googly eyes & quirky smile, is a distinct character, loved by adults & children alike. Frederick Elephant is not anatomically correct, but that is exactly what we love about this crazy creature! Knowing that a little child, from an underprivileged background in the slums of India dreamed up this quirky character in a moment of fun & creativity makes Frederick Elephant unique with an original personality.
Part of the proceeds from the Bholu collection go back to the Bholu Anganwadi Project which has now built a total of 8 pre-schools with Architects Without Frontiers Australia, in underprivileged communities & have several more under construction, which provides over 280 poor children with love, education & a nutritious meal. Most recently Bholu was selected as Time Magazine's Top 100 Most Influential Green Designs of 2009!
