Javelina...a hoofed mammal. Javelina is the only wild, native pig-like animal found in the U.S. Collared Peccary are widely known as the Javelina, Stink Pig or Tayaussa. The pig-like mammals are called Javelina because of their razor-sharp tusks..."Spanish for javelin or spear." The favored food of the Javelina is the prickly pear cactus due to its high water content. The average weight of the Javelina is 40 to 60 pounds with a length of 40 to 60" & an average height of 2 feet. Javelina have good hearing, but very poor eyesight. The Javelina lives about 10 years in the wild. Javelina are found in the Southwestern area of America & throughout Central & South America.
